03/06/2017STEAG founds joint venture with South African technology and service company EOH

Energy services for South Africa // Projects in the fields of conventional and renewable energy

Essen. At the Africa Energy Indaba, one of Africa’s most important energy fairs, STEAG Energy Services and EOH announced the foundation of a strategic joint venture. The EOH Group is a broadly based technology and service supplier which operates not only in South Africa, but also in 30 further African countries. The joint venture trades under the name STEAG EOH Energy Services South Africa (Pty) Ltd. and, as a leading company in the electricity and power plant industry, will offer a wide range of energy services in South Africa: performance of projects in the fields of consultancy, engineering services, operation and maintenance and the optimization of generating facilities based on conventional and renewable energy sources.

“Together as STEAG EOH Energy Services, we are in a position to provide services along the entire value chain of a power plant project, from feasibility and concept studies through design services to supervision of the construction of the plant and its later operation and maintenance,” as Dr. Ralf Schiele, Chairman of the Board of STEAG Energy Services, explains the background of the joint venture. “By drawing on a global network of professional know-how, STEAG EOH Energy Services can also handle all aspects of continuous operation, extension and optimization of existing power plants. The joint venture combines local resources with processes which have been tried and tested worldwide, top-level support and know-how for the benefit of the customer,” Schiele adds.

Zunaid Mayet, CEO of the Industrial Technologies Division at EOH, adds: “Changes in the South African energy sector have shown that it is the right time to put the joint venture into practice. In that way, each of the partners can contribute its entire range of skills, technologies and know-how, so as to respond to the changed market conditions. STEAG EOH Energy Services is in a position to provide a flexible service which can be completely tailored to suit the needs of our customers,” Mayet continues.

STEAG Energy Services has operated in South Africa since as early as 2005. Since then, the company has established itself on the market and expanded its customer basis. The team in Johannesburg provides comprehensive engineering services related to all aspects of the power plant process. At present, the experts from STEAG Energy Services are supporting the national power supply utility ESKOM in the erection of one of the currently largest coal-fired power plants under construction in the world. In addition, as part of an efficiency program, evaluations have been performed on almost 90 coal-fired power plant units owned by ESKOM, with a total capacity of 40 GW. The expertise of STEAG Energy Services as an engineering services provider with operating experience was in great demand in that project. In January 2014, the Essen-based energy company took on the operation and maintenance of the 600 MW power plant Morupule B in neighboring Botswana.
